The Product Positioning Map (PPM) package is a pc-based marketing decision support tool that facilitates market segmentation analysis and positioning. This package enables competing firms to generate a product positioning map (Kotler 1994) and to plot their own and competing brand trajectories. This product positioning map enables a firm to identify which brands are in the premium, high-value, penetration or rip-off strategy quadrants and to formulate a coherent marketing strategy.
The PPM package is used together with VALS psychographic profiles and psycho-geo-demo-graphic segmentation data concerning the target market to position their brands appropriately.

The PPM displays are generated for each of the strategic business units at the end of each year of operations. Based on these displays, the competing firms can:
visually check their brand positions relative to competing brands
use market segmentation analysis including VALS psychographic profiles and data
identify target markets
understand the media and purchase behavior of target consumers
position their brands appropriately

The PPM graphics application disk generates a set of nine product positioning maps. Each graphics display focuses on a different strategic business unit (SBU).
Each SBU is positioned on the product positioning map based on its quality index on the X-axis, and its price on the Y-axis. The brand trajectories are color-coded by company and the decision period is indicated for each of the plotted points. The price and quality axes for each of the periods plotted are auto-scaled. The scale anchors are rounded in order to be reader friendly.
This package:
simplifies data entry
saves data entered on disk for future use
The brand trajectories are color-coded by company and the decision period is indicated for each of the plotted points.
